How It Works

Note:
This section will help you to determine the correct size of your image if you decide to purchase 2 or more "blocks of pixels" and then place them side by side, on top of each other, or a combination of both.

You have two choices when determining your image size.

Choice 1: (The easy way) - Create an image to cover the amount of blocks you've purchased (don't worry about the 2 pixel borders that surround each block) then send us the image and we'll adjust it so that it fits. So if you buy 4 blocks (to make up a square) send us an image that is 40 pixels wide by 40 pixels high and we'll adjust it to fit the exact measurements which would actually be 42 pixels wide by 42 pixels high.

Choice 2: (The detailed way) - Just continue reading this page! Or for faster service and to look at some example block sizes then go to the Reference Links where you can choose from a list of options.

Let's Get Started:
The Billboard is made up of many small squares with each one measuring 20 pixels wide by 20 pixels high and separated by a 2 pixel wide (darker grey) border.

By purchasing more than 2 or more "blocks" and placing them side by side, your image gets to cover up all of the inside borders giving you, in effect, more for your money. Since all borders are 2 pixels in width, your image gains an extra 2 pixels (or more) in either height or width (depending on how you stack them). These steps are to assist you in determining the correct size for images.

DETERMINING YOUR IMAGE SIZE:

Decide how big you want your image to be!
In this first step, we've chosen to create an image that will cover an area equal to 3 "blocks" wide, by 1 "block" high.

Illustration "A" represents what the actual size of this image on the Billboard would look like. The "block" we've chosen for this example is outlined with a black dotted line.

Illustration "B" represents the same "block" except that it has been ENLARGED (approx. 6 times), just to make it easier to see as we go through these steps. Also (for this example only) the outside border has been colored red to indicate what is meant when we refer to "outside borders". When calculating the height and width of your image, outside borders are never included.

Illustration "A" - Actual Size On Billboard

Illustration "B" - Enlarged Approx. 6 Times

The red border (for this example only), indicates what is referred to as "the outside borders".

Determine the width of your image.
The next step is to determine the correct width for your image. When doing this keep in mind that images are only allowed to cover up the inside borders, outside borders are never included in any height or width calculations.

In illustration "C" below the black dotted line represents the only area that an image is allowed to cover (notice that none of the outside borders are included).

Since there are 3 "blocks" located within the black dotted border, and each one measures 20 pixels in width, it adds up to 60 pixels. (Remember that number because we're not done yet.)

Illustration "C"

The 1 Million Dollar Billboard Illustration is much larger than actual size

Add up the borders.
Illustration "D" below points out that there are also 2 grey borders located inside the image area and that each border is 2 pixels wide. As a result, the image gains another 4 pixels in width.

Illustration "D"

The 1 Million Dollar Billboard Illustration is much larger than actual size

Add the blocks and borders together.
So we have three "blocks" each 20 pixels wide (totaling 60 pixels), and two grey borders, each 2 pixels wide (totaling 4 pixels), and you get a grand total of 64 pixels for the width. See illustration "E" below.

Illustration "E" - Total Width is 64 Pixels

Determine the height
Illustration "F" shows that the height for this example is just 20 pixels high.

Illustration "F" - 20 Pixels In Height

Your done!
Now that you know the width (64 pixels) and the height (20 pixels) all you have to do is to create the image, then buy some "blocks" (however many it takes to hold your image), and send the image to us.

Reference Links

We've provided some convenient links to help you determine the correct dimensions of your image depending on the combination of blocks you'd like to buy.

For Example:
If you'd like to see the combination of "single rows of blocks" (up to ten blocks wide) then click on that link to see it's options. From there you can click on the different options to see the actual size of the blocks, and get their dimensions as well.

Combinations of "Single rows of blocks"
